As everyone knows, we have had some weed pressure this summer on our greens. The necessary steps are being taking now to get rid of the goosegrass. We are chemically treating each plant with a herbicide to kill it. This way is much less invasive right now than pulling.
Initially, you will see some blue dots on the greens. The blue is just a dye in order to track what has and has not been treated as to not over apply the herbicide. In the next couple of days these plants will turn black before melting completely out of sight. The bermudagrass will creep over the dying plant as there will then be less competition for it.
Here you can see our spray tech, Bob, treating 14 Bear green. The initial application on the Bear greens should be completed by Wednesday afternoon.
